One of the largest grouping of Night-Herons I have ever seen was at a water treatment plant in Elkhart, Kansas. The adult's red eye is stunning if you can catch them during the day with their eyes open. This was just going on dusk and couldn't quite catch an adult without spooking them or having it be too dark. This is a juvenile bird which can be told by the spotted brown coloring rather than the striking black and white of the adults. Thank you to the town of Elkhart for allowing birdwatching in the property, it really was amazing.
