Once Brown Pelicans were endangered and were not replenishing their numbers because of thin egg shells. The link to thin egg shells was linked to DDT in the food web that was passed along through fish. Each piece of the chain keeping the chemical in its system until the top of the web had massive levels in the system which caused thin egg shells for all birds at the top including Bald Eagles and Osprey. Luckily today the chemical is banned and the Brown Pelican has made a full comeback.
