These small geese are found along the northern Alaskan and Canadian Coasts during the summer but are found along the Pacific Northwest and BC coast and margins as well as the Southern States southern shores and farmland. They may seem no different than the Canada Goose, but there are "small" differences to look for. They are just slightly larger than mallards, the short cute beak, the square head, the white band on the neck of some birds, and the high pitched honk is distinctive. We have four to five thousand of them here in Metro Vancouver over the winter with these birds at the Burnaby Rugby Club field at Burnaby Lake.
