Coppersmith Barbet - Wat Phra Ram, TH

Our first day in Thailand had us at the ruins of Wat Phra Ram where there were several birds that posed nicely for photos, including this Coppersmith Barbet. The name comes from the very regular and metallic sounding voice reminiscent of a smith hammering metal. This bird was hawking insects in the smaller trees just outside the walled Buddhist Temple. The color and size of the bill was the first thing that we noticed.
