Eurasian Hoopoe - Wat Mahathat, TH

A family of Hoopoe were living in and around the temple which is perfect for them as they forage in the grass and live in the nooks and cranny's of the bricks. This bird has a unusual set of muscles that allow it to open its beak with a great deal of pressure to allow it to search for grubs in the grass. This is opposite to most birds who have jaw muscles that let the bird bite down with a great deal of force.
