We found this Green Jay at Estero Llano Grande State Park. The colors of its bright green body and striking blue crown stood out against the dense brush. They moved through the trees with a small group, constantly calling soft sounds to keep in contact. We noticed how social they were, staying close as they searched for insects and fruit. Green Jays work together to distract predators, showing impressive intelligence as is the case for most Corvids. This species thrives in the thorny habitats of South Texas, and Estero Llano Grande was one of the best places to see them up close. We loved birding in the Lower Rio Grande Valley on the South Texas Birding Trail. The staff was amazing and there was even a guide leading a group through the park. This stop was one of the best on our coastal Texas trip.
