This handsome fella is usually found in the mountain creeks and rivers during the summer months making his way between rapids and pools of water between the rocks. This is where the ducklings are raised, but some years the water levels are too high to nest successfully and some of the birds make their way back to the coast. This bird was working the rocky shores of the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal where they are on a regular occasion on the south side of the Jetty.
