Striking facial patterns always catch an eye in breeding season. In BC where we see them in migration, most of the patterning is faded and don't make for the best pictures. This was taken at Park lake in Alberta where the males will find a perch and sing ......well, like a lark! Horned lark have a whole bunch of different types of bird around the world, in fact there are 42 recognized sub species. It really makes me wonder if the lumpers are loosing the battle.
