Horned Lark - Richmond, BC

During the fall, Horned Larks lose their "horns," and this one is no exception.  They are rare visitors to the coast during migration and prefer open grass areas along the coast. In this case. this bird chose to stop over on the Iona Jetty out by the Vancouver airport. He would move back and forth from the top of the pipe to the roadway as people walked by. When the bird was not concerned about the passersby, he would pick through the short grasses for seeds.
