In the mud paddies of Ban Sahkon, Thailand, many shorebirds find their home here for the winter among the salt pans. This is where sea water is flooded into the shallow beds and then evaporated off countless times. The shallow sometimes watery "fields" are perfect for the waders to find brine loving shellfish, shrimp, amphipods and crabs. This Marsh Sandpiper is part of the Tringa family which include Yellowlegs and Solitary sandpipers in North America. The breeding range of this bird covers a great deal of Russia and Eastern Europe.
