A very rare sparrow to see east of the Rockies was this extremely shy Nelson's Sparrow. We showed up to Whiffen spit and spent at least an hour looking for the bird in an area less that 100 yards square. He was tucked into some roses and rotting logs that had been washed up by the high tide at some point. For 3 brief moments we were able to see him and take some photos. Our bird looked a little disheveled but overall seemed fine. As quickly as he had come, he left again within three days.
