One of the most common residents on manicured lawns around the islands is the Pacific Golden Plover. These shorebirds travel from the around the South Pacific to locations to the extreme north of Asia and North America to breed. This bird is commonly the only bird that you will find inland at low levels in the winter that are native residents. Golden plovers are told from Black-bellied plovers from the golden hue on their back and the much thinner bill. In flight the Golden's lack the black armpits of the Black-bellies. This bird was found along the entrance of the Wailea Golf Course.
