At the entrance to the pathway around Burnaby Lake on the Avalon side resides Red-breasted Sapsuckers. This cedar has been drilled for many years now. One of the interesting things I have learned about sapsuckers is that holes that are found in a row from side to side are for sap and the rows that are in line up and down are for catching insects in the sap. Interesting that these holes are in a cedar tree as cedars are not known for sap or insects on them.
