Red-wattled Lapwing - Wat Mahathat, TH

Standing proud on the outer walls of the monastery at Wat Mahathat, this member of the plover family surveys his territory. A relative of the North American Killdeer, Red-wattled plovers are found in South East Asia from Saudi Arabia to Vietnam and here in Thailand and we saw the species several times in our travels from Bangkok to Phuket. We heard them on almost all occasions before we saw them.
