Colony Farms has some of the best birding in the lower mainland with the Coquitlam River running through the middle of the park with multiple habitats and on the flight path of many migrating birds. In the North East section is a duck pond where a marsh houses 15 or more breeding pairs of Red-winged Blackbirds. Some of these vocal males singing for territory and the love of a female blackbird, have perches close to the path which makes for fantastic opportunities for photos.
