The Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) is a coastal wading bird found along the coast. The bird ranges from Florida along the Gulf Coast, Caribbean, and parts of Central and northern South America. It feeds in shallow saltwater flats, using fast, erratic movements to chase small fish. The white morph is less common than the dark form and can be identified similar active hunting style. Both morphs share a pink-based bill with a dark tip and shaggy neck feathers. This species depends on mangroves, lagoons, and tidal pools, making it sensitive to coastal habitat loss. Reddish Egrets are among the most active herons, offering reliable behavior cues for identification in the field.
