On the way through Banff National Park, we drove past a "Fool Hen" on the side of the road. We pulled over to take some photos and found there were 5 more birds. They were feeding off the tips of the pine needles and the Kinnikinic leaves on the slopes not covered in snow. These birds are very hard to see when still and will stay that way until you are almost right on top of them. If you do happen to get too close, they burst up with a flap of wings giving quite a start.
