Our most common sea duck in the Vancouver area during the winter and we have rafts that number in the 1000's along with White-winged Scoter which both make a winter home here in the bays and quieter water of the Salish Sea. This Surf Scoter was diving for bay clams under the White Rock Pier and didn't mind a close up. This was taken during a Bird Blogger bird tour which we host here in Greater Vancouver and surrounding area. I love the clown like make-up and the light blue eye of these very ornate ducks.
