This small hummingbird was often seen at the feeders on the deck of Tambo Condor Reserve. There are many names for hummingbirds, and interestingly, not all include the word "hummingbird," as is the case with the Tyrian Metaltail. These little birds boast coppery rumps and tail feathers. They inhabit higher altitudes but migrate up and down the mountains with the changing seasons. Sometimes, their sharp little bills pierce the base of flowers to access the nectar.
