On a pilgrimage to Vancouver Island we were lucky enough to see one of our rare owls of British Columbia. Western Screech Owls are few and far between now and to catch a brief look is a treat. Western Screech's have a rapid fire repetitive hoot and may not even sound like an owl. They are very fond of holes in trees and here in a nest box. The birds found in the desert areas are more gray than our rufous morphs.
