Fox Sparrow - Reifel Bird Sanctuary
One of the things I could never understand is why these birds were called Fox Sparrows. That is until I saw what the East coast birds looked like with their red fox coloring. Our west coast birds, like many other year round residents here are "sooty." This applies to grouse, woodpeckers, sparrows and probably more I can't think of. When you live in the dark gray forests of the Pacific North West, you might find that being darker gray helps you hide better. This was taken at Reifel Bird Sanctuary.
