Missouri

Mourning Dove - 10 Mile Pond, MO Feeding roadside this bird jumped up to a sluice gate frame to have a look to see who was coming at 10 Mile Pond near the Mississippi River in Missouri. This little bird seems to take more crash landings than he should base on the tail feathers being worn out. The Mourning dove is name for the plaintive cooing sound it gives out while roosting. I always try to get at least one Mourning dove on birding trips of the states with this being no exception. Michael W Klotz 2022 - www.TheBirdBlogger.com

Yellow-breasted Chat - 10 mile Pond, MO Considered part of the warbler family this gorgeous yellow masked devil is a wonderful site out on the powerline. He was singing proudly up on the wire above the hedge row keeping a real close eye below him. Who ever he was trying to impress was hidden well and not having anything to do with him. Notice the puffed out throat of this bird which happens when he is singing, making gurgling sounds. Michael W Klotz 2022 - www.TheBirdBlogger.com

Indigo Bunting - 10 Mile Pond, MO This brilliant blue bird is a rarity in my neighborhood on the west coast but here in Missouri, it is more common than most birds. They are fantastic to watch and listen to. Their song is a buzzy set of notes that is very calming. If you can't see them, you will certainly be able to hear them. This bird has some close cousins including Lazuli's Bunting and Painted Bunting which are also very colorful. Michael W Klotz 2022 - www.TheBirdBlogger.com

Dickcissel - 10 Mile Pond, MO During our southern states road trip, we hit 10 mile pond just west of the Mississippi River in Missouri. Along the farm road, we came across more colorful birds than you could shake a stick at. This Dickcissel was one of them. This male was quite happy to call the ladies while we watched on. These are a bird of the Prairies and will be thick one year and absent the next all based on conditions in the area. Michael W Klotz 2022 - www.TheBirdBlogger.com
