Vancouver Tours

Michael has over 25 years of experience birding in the Vancouver, BC area and really likes to share this beautiful country with visitors and locals. We have several ecosystems within a 2 hour drive of the Vancouver airport, that boast some of the best birding in North America. British Columbia's west coast is home to several birds that are only found in this part of the world, including the Pacific Wren, Chestnut-backed chickadee, Steller’s Jay, and Hutton’s Vireo to name a few. The Vancouver area is a very important stop on the Pacific Flyway and is home for many wintering birds that make their way south to the Fraser River Delta. This makes successful birding year round not only possible, but world class.

"My husband and I went out with Mike yesterday in the Richmond, Delta and Tsawwassen area. We're still buzzing about the wonderful time we had. Mike is a great tour guide and very good at answering our questions and being responsive to our particular interests. We are from New Zealand and we were delighted to see such a huge range of birds for the first time ever. We saw hummingbirds, many splendid ducks, a wonderful Horned Owl and family, 3 rare Sandhill Cranes and many Bald Eagles. The 'icing on the cake' was receiving an email with the lists of birds that we saw. This will help us as we record our photos and detail our memories of this this great day.
We unreservedly recommend Mike and the tour.
Thank you Mike!"

“My husband and I spent a fantastic day birding with Mike on a recent trip to Vancouver in late November. The original day we had planned was cancelled due to weather, the second of three atmospheric rivers hitting that day. He gave me suggestions of where to go on my own and came up with an alternate plan for the next day that was even better.  It was a great day with lots of birds including several new additions to my life list. Mike is a great guide who has extensive knowledge of  the area and the birds to be found in it. It was a pleasure to spend the day birdwatching with him and I am hoping to book another trip sometime."

“My son and I spent a wonderful half day with Mike.  We met early on a Saturday to catch the morning bird activities and went to three different great birding locations.  Mike was a patient and interesting teacher and guide as well as a wonderful interpreter of bird sounds.  If you have an interest in finding out what birding is all about I would highly recommend a trip with Mike.”

"As a novice birder I had a really great time with Mike. I got a morning of birding as a present for my birthday from my wife and he really went above and beyond to make it the best experience possible. His relaxed style and extensive knowledge really boosted my enthusiasm. You can tell Mike really knows the region and I would highly recommend him as guide for anybody who wants to go birding in the Vancouver area."

Daan Ootes - Vancouver, BC 2021

"Our tour with Mike was such fabulous day! As birding novices, we had no idea what to expect but the day was filled not only with incredible sightings but so much new learning. Mike is a pleasure hanging out with (several hours in freezing weather flew by!) and his wealth of knowledge and experience really added depth to the day. Best birthday gift ever!"

"We had a magnificent morning birding with Mike. Not only is he amazingly knowledgeable about birds, but he is very funny. He was fantastic at hearing and identifying the birds and then finding them and directing us clearly enough for two novice birders to follow and spot the birds. When I booked the morning Mike asked a number of questions about me and about what we hoped for from the morning. He planned accordingly. The morning was a huge success. We are in the process of planning a second outing. I would highly recommend birding with Mike to birders of all levels of experience or even to people who are not birder but love nature and want a bit of an adventure."

Marie Vermeulen - Vancouver, BC 2020

"I had the privilege to spend a morning birding with Mike in Vancouver. He is such a knowledgeable person and so excited to share with others not only identifying the birds but also their behavior, the ecology of the area and other facets of the natural history. Being from the east coast, USA.  I was so eager to hear all he had to tell and was more than satisfied. Mike is the best!!"
