In an old sawmill lot in Malakwa I heard the tell tale call of a spotted sandpiper. You would think it would be easy to locate the bouncy bird, however, it took me more than three minutes to finally find him on his perch on this old gnarled log. Just behind the greenery is an old oxbow section of the Eagle River where the shorebird is bound to find plenty to eat. My guess was there was a nest near by so I didn't get too close.
